Liner Note
A forward or backward jump with a passing through leaning on hands – I don’t know how accurate this definition is, but this may explain a flick flack. I’m sure that everyone has a visual idea about it. A pretty difficult but essential figure in a complex process. This concert may be evaluated with the same reasoning. You play with notes, styles and rhythms in a suite of elemental parts only accesible after a long period of cumulation. Anyone can use a flick flack, but until it’s accomplishment we need to practice it and build up experience. The concert has to be good, no matter how much we rehearsed or spent time together. Nobody cares if you are sick or if you have any other problem. You start the show and you better be good… The moments we spend on stage are equally fascinating and funny. The most thirilling moment is when you step in the spotlight together with a bunch of people you haven’t met very often but you know that you have a lot of beautiful things to share with, so many stories to tell, the moment you start playing and the fluid starts to flow, first among the band members and then to the curious audience. After the first bars the atmosphere is harmonizing and there are no more secrets, no more borders and you feel the thrill of freedom and intimacy. The band never had a complete map of the concert, sheets or any other hint to make a clear musical course. Instead we all had a very clear idea about the playlist, the basic melodies and the structure of each composition and we respond differently each show according to the spirit of the environment. We have total freedom. We share the pleasure of playing and the knowledge of a common idiom. And a simply beautiful audience who made us tell all we know and give all we have.
The concert is just another tribute to the greats, the ones who determined us to start a life of music, a trip through history and style, with songs that were chosen instinctively with an unconventional approach. We want you to take our music as it is, to refuse to consider that jazz is only for snobs and super-connoisseurs who wrinkle their nose everytime something is “twisted”, to avoid the moment when the finger that upstays the chin turns into the palm that masks the yawn. We prefered humour and assignment, the positive vibe that dominates the whole show, from the introduction of the repertoire and the artists to the CD design. Everyone had the freedom to present his own flick flack, to develop the character who tells his own story and a nickname to describe his personal figure. This recording was not destined to become a public production, but the chalenge of preserving another live moment in its pure form, without any studio remaking made this project become available. We like to think that the barrier between genres is just imaginary, we simply enjoy the music and you accept our flick flacks, joy, passion and mistakes. |
